Mission : Implement short (1 - 3 month) and medium (1 - 36 month) term plans to recover Komari to a social environment (economic state) as it was prior to "9.0 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami" and apply solutions compliant with viable technologies.

About Us

Community Focused Disaster Response (CFDR) Team comprise members of the Spokane Valley firefighters and selected independent voluntary professionals. The CFDR Team projects are funded by citizens of the world community.

Why Komari?

Following the immediate cleanup operations CFDR scouts assessed the eastern and southern coasts of Sri Lanka from the 1st day to the 7th day of 2005. East coast was head on directly impacted by the Tsunami. Komari is the closest town to the eastern most point (Sangamanthuduva) of Sri Lanka belonging to the Ampara district. The waves broke through the town washing mortal and debris to the lagoon behind. Ampara district reported most deaths and devastation. Komari was one of the last towns to receive and establish relief.

Considering the magnitude of devastation, lack of initiation for recovery and enormous amount of displaced natives the town of Komari was unanimously agreed by CFDR advance team to be the town that definitely needed CFDR attention for recovery. Work towards recovery started on the 12th day of 2005.
